Siberian Larch is a very resinous wood making it durable and ideal for external cladding. The clearly defined annual rings create attractive figuring. The colour of Siberian Larch can vary from a dark brown to a pale yellow. Larch is very slow grown and has a high durability factor for a softwood species. Due to its high density, Larch cladding is perfect for public access projects such as schools or shopping complexes where impact may occur.

      Further Information

      Durability

Larch is a class 3 durability rated product, which is moderately durable but can be treated to increase lifespan.

      Dimensional Stability

Larch will absorb and discharge moisture to reach equilibrium with the surrounding atmosphere and although fairly stable, can be prone to warping and shrinkage if not correctly acclimatised before application. Larch has a movement rating of medium.

      Workability

Larch can be machined to achieve a high quality finish, but due to the density of the product regular sharpening of the blades is recommended.

      Fixing

It is suggested that screwing instead of nailing is preferable to avoid splitting.

      Coatings and Treatments

Due to the density of larch, a high-quality surface coating can be applied. We would recommend a factory finish to ensure an even colour as site application onto larch can cause colour variances due to the density variations between different sections. Larch can also be treated with standard treatment products and Contra-Burn®  fire retardant system.

      Weathering

Larch will weather to a grey colour if left untreated over a period of time.

      Certification

Siberian Larch EUTR and UKTR complaint and can be offered as FSC certified.
